‘Engaging with the museum collection through song. Singing is a joyful group activity, it does wonders for our wellbeing and has been used throughout history – to come together, to celebrate, and to tell stories. The New Room museum are offering a free online workshop to share stories of Bristol’s history you may be unfamiliar with or want to deepen your knowledge on. These include themes of slavery and abolition, healthcare, environmental concern, and social divide. This workshop with the New Room’s Community Choir leaders and registered Music Therapists Meg and Judit, combines these themes of social justice with singing historical songs. The session, which will take place on zoom, offers a chance to see real objects, hear first-hand accounts and be inspired to make a difference in your own community.
